DNA
SCREENING |
 |
Tested individuals include: 1 child, 1 mother,
and 1 alleged father. (Note: Mother is not required to test but is recommended)
Testing
provides a fast positive or negative result. Samples can be collected in
the privacy of the donor's home, without the lab technicians being present.
Results are released and reported to anyone listed on the Authorized Self
Collection form. The Paternity Screen is not designed for legal purposes,
rather it is an inexpensive way to find out the results before involving others.
| COURT
ADMISSIBLE PATERNITY TEST |
|
Tested individuals include: 1 child, 1 mother, and 1
alleged father. (Note: Mother is not required to test but is recommended)
Give a statistical
analysis of paternity, and can be presented as evidence in court. Samples are
collected at our site or we can arrange to have a collection at another site.
Strict chain of custody protocols governs their collection and transport to the
lab. A legal affidavit/court order, photos, and valid identification is required
or the test cannot be conducted. Results are reported to all individuals listed
on the DNA release waiver form. Court admissible results report greater than
99.99% probability of paternity as a result of the statistical analysis that
is performed after DNA testing.
| When
the Father is unavailable for testing, two testing options are
available. |
Grand Paternity Study:
Tested individuals include:
1 child, 1 mother, and both of the alleged father's parents
A Grand Paternity Study
is a test between the child, mother, and both parents of the alleged father. It is a
straightforward test when both his parents are available for testing and there is no
doubt as to who his parents are. Since the mother and father of the alleged father
each contributes half of their DNA to their child, we can "recreate" the alleged father's
DNA make-up for comparison purposes by testing his mother and father. The turnaround time
for this study is two to three weeks from the time all samples are received in the
laboratory.
Siblingship Study:
Tested individuals include:
2 siblings with or without the mother. (With mother is strongly recommended)
The siblingship study can be
performed to determine the probability of whether the tested parties are full siblings,
half-siblings, or unrelated. With the mother's participation, the probability increases
dramatically to usually over 99%. The turnaround time for this study is two to three
weeks from the time all samples are received in the laboratory.
Full Siblings: Siblings who share the same mother and father
Half-Siblings: Siblings who have one biological parent in common, however the other biological parent is different.
Unrelated: Individuals who do not share any common biological parentage.
Can
be tested using medical, funerary, or abandoned biological materials.
Often these are routine, but they may involve serious criminal charges
and difficult-to-work-with samples. We have extensive experience
and an outstanding, courtroom proven record with these cases. If
the date of death is recent, call immediately to discuss the circumstances
to prevent the loss of easily obtainable samples.
Can
be performed on samples obtained by trained medical professionals
during the cutting of the umbilical cord at birth. Kits are sent
out to either the individual or attending doctor prior to the delivery
date.
Is
performed to determine whether twins are identical or fraternal.
Samples are only required from the twins.

FORENSICS

 |
Is
performed on children and high profile individuals to create a genetic
identification profile in case of disappearance or foul play. This
procedure is also performed to determine whether two samples are
from the same individual.
California
DNA's Lab has the distinction, of having the highest appellate
acceptance for an RFLP DNA criminal paternity. Our Lab has years
of experience performing these cases and typically provide reports
so convincing that further testimony is unnecessary.
This
can involve direct comparison of tissues and other samples, and
often requires the performance of "reverse paternity"
calculations. California DNA's Lab has a track record with the unusual
and sub-optimal samples often encountered under these circumstances
is among the best.
California
DNA's Lab has profiles under contract on more than 25,000 individuals
that are currently in law enforcement data banks, including the
FBI's National DNA Index System. We are capable of performing this
work by both of the FBI acceptable platforms and are currently implementing
robotic systems to improve the efficiency of these procedures.
We
contract with public sector crime laboratories to develop DNA profiles
on evidence, primarily from sexual assaults, for whom law enforcement
officials do not have viable suspects.

DRUG
TESTING SERVICES |
 |
Hair
follicle screening for drugs of abuse
Unlike
other drug testing methods, hair follicle screening can provide
an accurate look at an individual's drug usage over the course of
a 90 day period. And the donor's ability to adulterate a hair sample
is virtually nonexistent due to laboratory testing procedures, so
there is little need to worry about inaccuracy due to sample tampering.
About 120 strands of hair are cut as close to the donor's scalp
as possible. The sample is then forwarded to our laboratory where
it is chemically cleansed to remove any contaminants. The sample
is then liquefied and tested. Because the test is so accurate and
thorough, it is the chosen testing procedure of the Courts. In addition
to private corporations we offer services to many Superior Courts
and Attorneys, who come to us for their drug testing needs. Hair
follicle screening is the most reliable drug testing method available.
Suspicious
Substance Testing
At
California DNA we can conduct testing on suspicious substances in
order to make a determination as to what the substance is. We have
the most advanced technologies that allow our lab to analyze various
unknown substances. This ensures that, should you find a suspicious
substance on an employee, a child or just in the vicinity of your
office or home, you can get a true and accurate account of what
that substance is.
